Seed Savers / Community Garden

Due to an unfriendly weather forecast, the Community Garden work bee has been re-scheduled to tomorrow – Wednesday June 28th 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Our hope is to build four 12’x3’x2′ raised beds, line the beds with landscaping cloth and fill with top soil that has been generously donated by North Branch Landscaping and Tietgens Trucking and Excavation.

Seed Savers Group Moving Forward With Community Garden

After months of planning, awesome gardening workshops, guest speakers, and packets and packets of seeds – The Stamford Seed Savers group will be driving the first screws, pounding the first nails, and shoveling the first dirt to kick off the community garden project.

The goal of the community garden project is to re-purpose the severely deteriorating tennis courts behind the Stamford Elementary School and transform this rarely, if ever, used area of the grounds into a shining example of community building and outdoor learning space for all.

Several ideas for the space are already in the planning stage but it all begins with building the raised beds and filling them with the soil generously donated by local businesses.

Come be a part of the kick off work bee on June 27th from 5:30pm to 7pm at the community garden. Feel free to bring a broom, hammer, shovel, rake, cordless drill or saw, any ideas for the space you may have, and plenty of community spirit!

Recap From Seed Savers Table at SCC Tag Sale June 3, 2017
Helen and Stephen worked at the church event from 9am to 1pm at the Stamford Seed Savers table. It was rather windy and cool, so the table neighbor set us up with a sheet to block the wind, making it a very enjoyable experience.

We brought 50 plants and a few bags of compost to give away. People were happy to receive black cherry tomato, green cabbage and (reluctantly) kale plants, and donations were received ($42 minus $10 for the table). No one wanted a bag of compost today.
